I remember climbing over the fence to raid the dumpsters for those thin gear disks that made perfect ninja stars. I remember the fallout from that at school too... I remember a 'lizard field' near the train tracks where we used to go catch them, box them and freak out our parents but I don't know if it was the same place as you described. I can't believe how much detail I've forgotten and how much is popping back into my head after so long. The drunk at the Bahnhof who the polizei were trying to corner. We all crouched under a 1st floor balcony watching the show. The clouds of sparrows that would fly out of the abandoned factory on Wilhelmstrasse and "rain" on any unfortunate person walking along. Well enough babbling.

I had meant to reply to Joe's below.

Hello!

I think my brain is going to pop after looking over everything. I don't even remember the area numbers for the PMQs anymore. I lived on Wilhelmstrasse from 82 to 88. Attended West End from 4th to 6th grade and then LS through the 9th grade. I did the bike tour of the Schwarzwald instead of one of the fancier trips (although I don't regret it!). I'm still in extreme shock looking over the photos and posts so pardon the rambly nature of this post. All these memories are busting out: CYC, duck pond, lizard field, putting coins on the railroad tracks, crawling through bushes playing 'guns', marbles, jailbreak, forgetting ID cards when going to school, angry german kids, slinky busses, glass stink bombs from the joke store, a hill-side swimming pool that I think was called the Terrassenbad (spelling?), cobble-stone roads, hill-top castles, polishing bullets (and the trouble that followed that!), ski-trips... I think I need to go have a beer and settle this brain down.

Welcome aboard John.  It's always nice to have a new member of our goup.  I'm certain a number of your friends will soon be posting repsonses once they recognize your name.

Yep, that's the name of the swimming pool on the hill.  Great memory you've got there.  Must say, I don'r recall anything about lizards though.  The PMQ I lived in was "across" [a wall separated the building and the PMQ area] the way from some old factory and can recall shooting out windows with a sling shot as me and my buddies sat on the roof of the garage.  Area 8 was about in the middle of Westend and Gutenburg schools.

I hope the beer you went to get is a German one - perhaps a Lowenbrau??

I love reading the reactions of our newer memebers!  I know the site can be overwhelming and I should post a warning to all new registrants about the amount of time one could spend on here going through old photos and lists of names, posts, etc.  ha ha.

I'm glad you enjoyed it.  That makes it worth all the trouble.

Awesome!
